Crime Pays for Shit

I keep saying to my friends that we should do this–find some old comics and re-text them–but it’s just too intimidating, knowing Jay Pinkerton exists.

He’s editor for the new Cracked magazine, now. It’s interesting that he’s moved his site to jaypinkerton.cracked.com. Geez, maybe they need his traffic more than he needs theirs.

Type new words into old comics?

That boat sailed a long time ago.

Holy God, it’s a Xhiao sighting! Quick, load up the blurry super-8 film! No, not in that camera, the shaky one!

To follow up on Stan’s post, this is a concept that has already appeared in MAD.

Notice I didn’t say MAD Magazine. We’re talking MAD #11, May 1954, when it was still a comic book.

So, in conclusion, it’s no wonder he got hired to be the editor of Cracked!

Concept, yeah. I’m not saying he invented it. It’s the execution that’s brilliant.

Dude, I bet he wasn’t even born yet in 1954! I mean, I’m almost dead and I wasn’t born then.

But yeah, there is nothing new. Sometimes while enjoying a nice warm milk in my rocking chair I muse that maybe even Kurtzman wasn’t the first to do it. Unfortunately Google doesn’t have a cache of the Dysfunctional Katzenjammer Kids.

Yeah, Pinkerton is really funny. I read all of his material long ago, it’s really good. I dont know if you’ve seen them yet, Spinn, but you should check out his “News Skim” comics, the ones about the 2004 election.

Also, I recommend you to check the website called “www.pointlesswasteoftime.com”. It’s very good too. In fact, Pinkerton used to write there, and it’s were I first heard about him.
