Honestly, not only has the terror won in the “terrorists” sense, but the terror has won in the “when did the country becomes a big bunch of pussies” sense. I knew this was true when Ahmadinejad visited Columbia College and conservatives pitched such a shitfit about it, but I couldn’t put into words why this bugged me. Fortunately, a guy named Rick Perlstein worked it out.

Not only agree, but Perlstein took the words out of MY mouth too. I was sickened by the imeediate response of just about EVERY TV talking head from Chris Matthews to Wolf Blitzer trying desperately to write him off.
Unfortunately for them, he turned out to be a fairly eloquent speaker (kill the zionists and no gays in Iran aside, of course) for what was previously painted as a raving lunatic, and we ended up looking like the assholes when the camera showed our empty seats at the UN.
What? We’re now such pussies in this country that we can’t even listen like all the other countries did? “OOOOH, we didn’t even show up!!! You’re burned!!”

I wondered about that “no gays” comment…the one clip I heard sounded like it could’ve been a translation error. Something like “We don’t have gays in Iran like you do here”, couldn’t that mean, they’re just not a visible part of the culture like they are here? Or did his speech further go on to clarify his position as nutty as everyone’s made it to be?

Now a Republican congressman running for President wants to introduce a bill (called “Restore Patriotism to University Campuses Act”) that would cut off all federal funding to Columbia University.
