Ask not what your stop sign can do for you

<spinn> so there’s a guy, john gilmore, who’s running for senate in virginia
<spinn> he just put out an announcement video on the youtubes
<spinn> generally being hailed as a flop by liberals, but whatever. but here’s the first sentence
<spinn> These are challenging times for our country. We’re threated by terrorism, concerned about a difficult war, stuck in traffic, dissatisfied with how our children are educated, and too often our culture seems more interested in the latest doings of tabloid celebrities than the debates that could decide our country’s future.
<spinn> which one of those things is not like the other
<raven> Obviously *someone* doesn’t commute.
<spinn> yeah but!
<spinn> I mean shit your right-out-the-gate mission statement
<raven> heh
<raven> “That’s my top five there!”
<spinn> TERRORISTS! WAR! THAT FUCKING INTERSECTION AT LAWRENCE AND KIMBALL!

edit: comments on that page indicate that “traffic” is actually a hot Virginia issue. Still reads weird from the outside, though.

Yeah, actually. I mean, I see how that seems very out of place, but I think anyone living on the east coast has huge issues with traffic. It’s a very real problem, one that ought to be addressed, but yeah, weird in that context.

Yeah, traffic’s a big fucking deal here in NoVA, since everyone works in DC or Arlington but there are only a few ways into the area from the suburbs and exurbs. This means horrible traffic from about 7:00 to 10:30 in the morning and 3:30 to 7:00 in the evening on the main routes in and out.

The state races ’round here (VA does off-year elections, so they were a couple weeks ago) were pretty much all about congestion on I-66, and the 1000% increase in fines for speeding tickets. Apparently those are the only two problems facing the state.

You know what’s a hotter issue than traffic, though? Amusing.org is dead again!

Well, there have been more responses here, but that’s just because we don’t SEE the spam that’s being posted there.
