President Elect Obama won…no doubt. There is no mandate (last one I can remember is Reagan in 1984).
But there is certainly definite momentum to make things happen. And he certainly has no obstacles in front of him; therefore, no excuses. You should get everything he said he would do during the campaign. And because of that, I will put on hold any expansion or hiring until these things are understood.
Novak is a fool as well as Noonan. I have heard very little about a mandate from any other sources and way too much coverage of Gov Palin – what is all that about? Usually the other ticket just disappears.
(One small footnote: An underlying concern is the amount of money spent by the Obama/Biden campaign to get the votes. The more money collected, the more expected paybacks.)

On your final point MikeG: “The more money collected, the more expected paybacks.”
I have no idea what the breakdown is, but I expect the line you’d hear from the Obama camp is many of their donations were small and from individuals. So the payback they’d expect isn’t the same as PACs or bundlers who put together a hundred-thousand/million dollar blocks of “donations.”

“He has no obstacles in front of him?”
How long are you going to fling this nonsense in all directions before you go get that brain damage looked at?

Despite the personal attack (again without knowing me, my opinions are considered some part of a mental ailment, amazing), Anonymous (come out, come out whomever you are), what obstacles are awaiting him?
The president-elect clearly has won the election… no ‘selection’ there. The Senate and House are firmly in control by his party. The world has opened its arms wide in anticipation of this. He has plans galore and is moving ahead with deliberate haste.
Again, what concerns you?

Jim,
There are plenty of groups that backed the president-elect. Found this website for a breakdown…actually a very good resource for the breakdown.

My point is that there are many groups who perceive their importance for electing Sen Obama. They will make sure to remind him of their importance.

I thought I revoked your First Amendment rights already.
November 10th, 2008 16:39
Sarah didn’t win so my First Amendment rights are intact!

ugh. Okay, I’m going to reply anyway.
I don’t agree with the term “brain damage”, but I don’t disagree with the spirit of what anon’s saying (and to you at least, Mike, I am certainly not anonymous). You’re maintaining a blank spot on purpose for some reason that gives you happiness, but I can’t imagine why. The idea that Obama has no obstacles ahead of him is just…laughable, really.
I don’t really want all three branches of government to be in Democratic control. Or, I should actually say: I don’t want the Senate controlled by the Democrats if it means 1) Lieberman is the lynchpin and 2) Reid is still majority leader. Because that is barely in “control”, if at all. (Case in point: why does everyone care so much about 60 seats? Because they’re still pissing themselves about the Republicans having the ability to filibuster. That’s not control, that’s fear. Or at the very least, submissiveness.)
But regardless. I don’t really think one-party rule of all branches is necessarily a good thing. I’ll take all Democrats over all Republicans any day, but…
