Family Guy

Lucky there’s a man who positively can do all the things that makes us laugh and cry

Pulled this off the front page of whitehouse.gov. Fairly standard photo op, though it’s given more significance because it’s one of the pictures they chose for the front page.

But even regardless of the photo-opness of this particular pic, one thing that’s been clear in the few years Obama’s been in the national spotlight is that he’s a good father and family man. Whenever you see his wife and children together with him, they just seem like a family. It’s kind of refreshing to see a politician who doesn’t use his family values as a club, but just has ‘em.

It’s very refreshing. Bush’s daughters were rampant cokewhores, you rarely saw them because he fucked up parenting almost as badly as he fucked up his presidency.

Tell you the truth, I don’t even go as deep as passing judgement on his parenting skills. Every time you’d see George and Laura on some soft 20/20ish interview, it’d be Bush and Husband-Supporting Rictus. At the inauguration, when Bush Sr. and Barbara were coming down the stairs, it’s like they were acquaintances that happened to get on the walkway at the same time. But whenever you see Obama with his wife, especially with their kids, it’s like they’re together.

And he’s our President! How awesome is this? I kind of don’t believe yet. I still keep expecting Bush to pop out and yell “got ya!” A part of me still worries I’ll be carted off to (the soon to be non-existent) gitmo for some lame joke about terrorism I tell my father in NZ.

Hence the refreshment. We haven’t had a president with a close-knit family like that in eons. Shit, wish I had it like that. It’s a great model for everyone in this country… does anyone else slowly feel their patriotism returning?

“We are family. Get up everybody and sing.”

Hopefully, the lack of family dysfunction will propagate throughout gov’t. I’m not setting my hopes so high that I think O’s going to walk on water and lead us to a perfect society. However, if he can prevent the US from embarrassing itself further, that amounts to a big gain in my book.

Yeah, some people are way too enamored of Obama at this point, but eh. Even my ingrained cynicism has to admit that he’s way better than Bush and there’s no reason not to be happy about that.

K, I’d just like to point out that there was a period of at least three years when the Bush twins’ rampant cokewhoring propped up the entire DC bar scene.

    I stand corrected.

Bush was much worse at being president than parenting.
