If it’s so evident that a bad economy for the majority has negative effects on the rich, why isn’t it obvious that a good economy for the majority would have positive effects for the rich?

Oh no, some 23-year-old wannabe model can’t afford her fetal-ostrich-skin Manolo Blahniks…

Oh, and to answer your question: I don’t think we tend to notice it unless they’re the type of “rich” who flaunt their wealth. Notice that we don’t have shows like “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” anymore, unless you count MTV Cribs.

It’s a special type of vapid that, in the good times, says “Look at all the stuff I got, biotch!” and when they’re selling off their “statement pieces”, crying “Look what’s happened to me!”

Because people suck. You’re just not cynical enough about this stuff yet.

When I read stories like that, I almost start to feel bad, but then I remember my how best friend’s self-made brother-in-law bought a brand new Lamborghini, sold it three months later when he “didn’t drive it enough,” and then bought an identical model three months after that, because he “missed it.”

Sympathy’s hard to come by. I guess that’s the tragedy of the nouveau-riche: too gauche to earn the respect of the longstanding upper class, too self-important to earn the respect of the proletariat.

And I love how “recession is trickling” for them… funny, ’cause “depression is waterboarding” the rest of us.
