Winners quit (I guess?)

Three bits of commentary on Palin’s resignation.

(1, 2, 3)

Also, she put out another statement today to expand on her statement yesterday, which in addition to being some of the most tetchy, self-centered sort of thing I’ve seen from a politician, includes this: “I’ve never thought I needed a title before one’s name to forge progress in America.” If I was an Alaskan resident who’d voted for her, I’d be thinking “well thanks a fuckin’ lot for wasting my time, then.”

The rumor going around is that she’s quitting to prepare to run for president.

Good luck with that. I’m guessing a good chunk of time between now and whenever she actually announces that will be growing a brain for her.

That’s one of several rumors going around. And the reason that there are several rumors going around is because 1) you don’t look at that speech and think she actually gave the reason reason, and 2) no one can think of a single obvious reason why she’d do it.

I think the presidential thing is just out, and this commenter and Josh Marshall pretty much sum it up. I’m starting to think that people are reading too much into it: that the speech really did say her reasons. She’s beset on all sides, and she’ll do more for America if she’s not wasting taxpayer time and money on all the frivolous attacks the liberal media is bringing. I’m really starting to think we should just take her speech at face value.

To be fair, spinn, you can’t look at her speech (or watch it twice, as I did) and come up with /any/ reason that she was stepping down.

In the end, I just took her at face value, figured that “I don’t want to put Alaska through a lame duck governorship” was the reason, she wasn’t bright enough to understand all that that would entail politically, and the cute basketball analogies were just aw-shucks hucksterism thrown in to pad out the press conference.

    Hey Spinn!

I’m not sure if this is the original SpinnWebe dude that has been around since the birth of the Internet, but I want to say hello if you are.

I’m not sure if you will remember me, but back in the glory days of the Intenet, you and I had an email war.

I’m not sure if either one of us won, but I’ve always admired you for your hilarious and creative page you made that sent me hundreds of emails in my (then) Compuserve email address.

You made a page with a form on it, including blanks and drop down menus. Every time someone hit submit the form would send me several emails.

How to get revenge? Well, I ended up creating a fake porn site with a submit button. Simple page that said “click here for free porn” or something. Each time a person clicked it would send you email.

So, I believe we both win an award for creativity… LOL

Anyway, I hope you are doing well… and, I miss the good ol’ Wild West days of the Internet.

    Ahh… good times!
